How food can affect our kids? Why you should care about the food your kids eat?
I wish I could tell parents that they are killing their kids with the type of diet they offer them. It became normal the kids eat tons of chocolates, pizzas, fried food, and burgers. It became a regular diet for rich kids. Let’s see why parents are killing their kids.
The huge amount of chocolate and pizzas kids eat is very rich in carbohydrates (which are simply glucose.) Normally, when we exceed the amount of carbohydrates our body needs, they will be converted to fat and stored in our bodies.
When we eat excess amounts of this food, we will have high levels of fat in our bodies, and, thus, high levels of LDL. LDL is a lipoprotein that is responsible for delivering fat to our tissue since fat can’t normally dissolve in our plasma. High levels of LDL are considered to be the main cause of atherosclerosis. These high LDL levels, when in excess, are deposited inside our blood vessels(the intima layer) initiating inflammation and causing blood vessels to become stiffened and become more blocked. This is the idea of atherosclerosis. This why only obese people get atherosclerosis.
But the question here, do kids have these atherosclerotic plaques? Well, no and yes. How? Atherosclerosis is an inflammatory disease that takes time to develop and show symptoms. However, these kids have what is called “fatty streak.” Fatty streaks are when LDL deposits inside the blood vessels, but they haven’t yet changed the caliber of the blood vessels and haven’t done much damage. It is the first grossly visible (visible to the naked eye) lesion in the development of atherosclerosis. It appears as an irregular yellow-white discoloration on the luminal surface of an artery. Kids at the age of 10 begin to have these deposits! And the most common site is in the coronary arteries that supply our heart! This is really serious!
Can you see in the image above? From the first decade in life people can get fatty deposits in their arteries! They are completely reversible if you only quit this diet.
This is why excess glucose is bad and may lead to atherosclerosis. It is the fat that gets synthesized inside our bodies. This also predisposes people to develop insulin resistance diabetes type 2 and hypertension at a very young age.
